A dramatic and beautifully carved Essex Crystal (reverse carved) male lion brooch. The portrayal of the lion with a full mane and partially opened mouth is extremely detailed. The fur is amazingly realistic and the face is lifelike. This piece is set in a gold frame (14K). It has an antique brooch closure, indicating this piece was most likely made at the turn of the century. There is a small hinged loop at the top of the brooch which allows it to be suspended on a chain. It measures 1.5in in diameter and is in very good condition.
